Piruqatigiit Resource Centre (Piruqatigiit) is a community based, non-profit organization that was created by Nunavummiut with lived FASD experience and professional knowledge.
We are grounded in promising and best practices, guided from a holistic and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit approach to information sharing and programming.
Piruqatigiit provides education, resources and programming for children, youth and adults with FASD. We also provide programming, resources and support for caregivers and loved ones.
Piruqatigiit works closely with the pediatric FASD clinic in Iqaluit to provide helpful information and support to individuals and families.
In addition to our programming, we also provide education and consultation for organizations to support FASD and trauma informed spaces and practices. Piruqatigiit seeks to support equitable, accessible and inclusive systems and spaces in Nunavut for Nunavummiut with suspected and confirmed FASD.
Vision Statement: Piruqatigiit Resource Centre holds a vision for Nunavummiut with suspected and confirmed FASD to experience improved quality of life and equitable opportunities to participate in places of learning, working, and gathering in community. We envision services, systems and the general public to become FASD aware and informed in a way that promotes dignity, equity, accessibility and inclusion for Nunavummiut with FASD and their loved ones.
Mission Statement: To provide evidence based, Inuit guided and informed programming, education, resources and support to Nunavummiut with suspected and confirmed FASD and their families across the lifespan. Piruqatigiit will also be a leader in developing and providing evidence based, community-responsive FASD training and education to community members, organizations and systems to promote FASD informed policy, practices and knowledge capacity within Nunavut.
Tamatta - All of us - we all have value, worth and contributions to make in our communities and within our families and networks. All of us can work together to create awareness about FASD. All of us can promote dignity and ensure equitable opportunities are provided to Nunavummiut with suspected and confirmed FASD that promote wellbeing and belonging. Tamatta is the foundation for Piruqatigiit’s model of service provision and how we we will treat each other. Tamatta - we are we; all of us together.
Piruqatigiit - 'grow together' or 'growing together' was chosen as our centre's name as we grow together in knowledge, in experience and as a community. Programming and resources are accessible for Nunaummiut of all ages, and we will be here for individuals and families across the lifespan - growing together.
Piruqatigiit Resource Centre seeks to fill in service gaps in our territory for individuals and families living with FASD, working from a strengths based approach.
We envision a territory that values equity, accessibility and inclusion for people with neurodevelopmental/neurobehavioural disorders such as FASD by learning about the needs and strengths of people with FASD and ensuring accommodations and appropriate supports and resources are available for Nunavummiut from infancy to elder years.
Piruqatigiit seeks to ensure Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and language guides and informs our service delivery approach, our programming and resources. Programs delivered in Inuktut is a priority of Piruqatigiit Resource Centre and we are furthering our capacity to be able to offer this for Nunavummiut soon.
We envision Piruqatigiit providing programming and building knowledge capacity across the territory in the future with the support of our primary location in Iqaluit.
